Ostimar S.A.  is a company of Chilean capitals that dedicates itself entirely to the cultivation of sea scallops (Argopecten purpuratus) in Tongoy bay, Fourth Region, Chile. Its origins go back to 1991 when it began to operate under the aegis of Hidrosan Construcciones Limitada, in 1993 it was transformed into Ostimar Marine Cultures, and at the end of the 1990s in Marine Cultures Ostimar S.A .; In this period the company reached productions close to 200 tons.

During the year 2000, in order to participate in the various productive opportunities presented in the aquaculture industry, the Company was acquired in 66% of its holding by Inversiones y Tecnología Limitada - Invertec, through its parent company Invertec Pesquera Mar de Chiloé S.A. happening to be denominated Invertec Ostimar S.A. The Invertec holding company includes companies mainly engaged in the cultivation of salmon in the X region, and agro-food production. During 2005 the parent company was opened to the stock exchange, changing in 2012 its name to Invermar S.A.

In 2006, Invertec Pacífic Seafood S.A., a plant destined to the process of the scallops produced by Invertec Ostimar S.A., began its operations, with the objective of developing new products and ending the dependence that until that moment had of the French market.

In the year 2015, Invermar S.A. was acquired by about 80% by Alimar S.A., who in turn was left with the entire property of Invertec Ostimar S.A. and its subsidiary Invertec Pacific Seafood S.A.

During the last 15 years, Invertec Ostimar produced an average of more than 300 tons of scallops meat, with a maximum of 500 tons in 2009; the average of the last 4 years has been in 200 tons per year and it is expected by 2017 to return to levels of 600 tons and to prepare a bigger growth for the next years and to re-position to Chile like a major producer of pectinidae worldwide. By 2015 the level of sales reached US $ 5.45 million.
